National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Competition Goal

Propose solar plus storage options for a urban university campus and agriculture field.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Competition Details

We evaluated the solar feasibility of the Ohio State University’s medical campus in Columbus, Ohio, for proposing solar plus storage options to improve their campus’s resilience as well as improving their personal sustainability. We designed PV systems for several rooftops, parking garage, and their nearby agricultural field with consideration of the impact on the distribution system and redesigned to meet various constraints such as the PV Host Capacity, thermal/voltage constraints. Additionally, we met and complied with the NEC, NFPA, and local jurisdictions. The proposal submitted was considered as a Finalist in the NREL organized competition.
